AN EXPLORATION OF EXPERIMENT OF NEIGHORHOOD PARK
The Whale Park is located at the intersection of Junjun Road and Junli Road, Xiangfang District, Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China. The project covers an area of approximately 1.61 square meters and is part of a renovation project of the old city of Xiangfang district, which includes residential, commercial streets and schools. As Harbin Vanke's first entry project, ZAP hopes that the park will be an important milestone in the development of the downtown area and a vibrant park for the public to be fully participated.
项目位于黑龙江省哈尔滨市香坊区拥军路与军立路交汇处，占地约1.61平方米，是一个包含住宅、商街、学校在内的香坊老城区焕新开发项目中有机构成的一部分。作为哈尔滨万科首进项目，ZAP希望让这个公园能够是整个城市发展的一个重要节点，也是哈尔滨香坊区内的一处市民充分参与的场所。
The Whale Park is positioned to become a key green space in Harbin due to its unique geographic location in the city, bringing it closer to the public and creating a street corner garden embedded in the urban framework. The Whale Park needs to meet the practical demands of the various groups of people living in the city, including children and teenagers as well as adults.
由于其特殊的城市区域位置，鲸鱼公园的定位是将会成为哈尔滨城市的一处重点绿色场所，将会带来贴近市民生活，藏于城市结构中的街角花园。鲸鱼公园需要满足城市各种人群的实际使用需求，包含儿童与青少年以及成年人休憩等复合型公园。
Whale Park potential usersThe design is an experiment in the interpretation of a street-level pocket park. When ZAP designers first came to the site, they were impressed by the bustling old town atmosphere and the fact that a railway track runs through the site. How to lightly renovate and upgrade the railroad tracks to a public recreation area with rich landscape scenes and historical value while ensuring the normal operation of the tracks twice a year.
设计是一处阐释街心口袋公园的实验之作。当ZAP设计师第一次来到项目现场时，便被周边热闹的老城区氛围所打动，场地内还有一条现状铁路轨道铺设而过。项目如何在保证铁轨一年两次的正常运行的条件下，进行铁路的景观轻改造与提升，使其成了一个景观场景丰富、保留历史价值的公共休闲场所。

启发与思考
INSPIRATIONS
Due to the specificity of the project's geographic location and the landmark significance of the rejuvenation of the city, as well as the fact that the park is surrounded by the neighboring buildings, the design team aimed to differentiate the landscape from the traditional showcase , in order to revitalize the site and reshape its spirit from the needs of its users. The design is intended to be different from the pure demonstration of show-area, but more focused on the needs of the users to activate the city vitality, reshape the spirit of the site and advocate a new style of life, "let the design into life, let the design into people's hearts", so that the park can really light up the tense and monotonous urban life.出于项目地理位置特殊性及城市焕新地标性意义的考虑，也由于公园被周边的建筑体所包围。设计希望有别于传统意义上的纯展示性示范区景观，设计团队便着力于从使用人群所需出发，以激活城市活力，重塑场地精神，倡导生活新风尚，“让景观融入生活，让设计深入人心”，让公园真正的点亮原本紧张单调的都市生活。

海洋广场门区——悦动的虎鲸
OCEAN PLAZA - FLOWINGWAVES WITH DELIGHTFUL WHALES
The park takes "ocean exploration by day, starlight adventure by night" as the theme, organizes every space and functional area, and takes a whale's journey of discovery as the guide, incorporating undulating ocean islands, rolling wild canyons, flowing waves and undulating icebergs as the elements, as well as the graphics of the park pavement, signage, art installations and other vocabulary, linking up the entire touring route, establishing the most trendy interactive immersive experience of Harbin city and the most interactive, artistic, light and shadow, science and education outing destination.
公园以“白日海洋探索，夜间星光冒险”为主题，组织各个景观空间和功能区，以一只虎鲸的探索发现之旅为引领，融入起伏的海洋岛屿，连绵的野趣峡谷，流动的海浪及冰山起伏为设计要素，及公园铺装、标识、艺术装置等设计语言语汇，串联起整个场地的游览动线，打造哈尔滨地区最新潮的互动沉浸式体验公园和最具互动性、艺术性、光影性、科教性的出游目的地。

Our discovery route begins at the corner entrance to the city's main boulevard, where the first thing you notice is the 15-meter tall black and white whale sculpture that leaps above the square.
市政主干道的街角入口处，最先映入眼帘就是跃然于广场上方的高达15米的黑白虎鲸雕塑，我们的探索路线就从这里开始。
Sculpture Design to Construction Process
The water feature with a jumping fountain, the simple glacier grill, the tree pond symbolizing the reefs in the sea, and the orca whales that cross the surface of the sea are all a sight to behold, and the plaza has become a popular spot for photo-taking and fitness activities day and night.跃动的喷泉水景，造型简洁的冰川格栅，象征着海中礁石的休憩树池，与越出海面的虎鲸相映成趣，无论白天夜晚，广场上都聚集着慕名而来的拍照的游客以及健身活动的市民，成为当地最具人气的打卡聚集地。
As you walk along the wave-like flow of the plaza space, the park unveils its charms as layers of rolling seas and meandering coastal canyons.
沿着海浪般流动的广场空间前行，整个公园就如同层层波澜的大海与蜿蜒起伏的海岸峡谷，在游客面前逐步揭开它魅力的画卷。

Popular street basketball and outdoor amphitheater
Sheltered by a grill of pure white icebergs and surrounded by rolling island grass slopes, is one of the park's most popular locations, an open, free, eco-friendly, all-weather, free outdoor basketball court.纯白冰山格栅的掩映下，在起伏的岛屿草坡环绕中，是公园最具人气的场地之一，一个开放、自由的生态型全天候免费户外篮球场。
ZAP's design takes into consideration the fact that the court is not only used for daily basketball relaxation, but also for basketball competition. The grassy slope on one side of the court, combined with the shade of the trees, provides stone seats and lush grass slopes, making it the best place for outdoor spectators.
ZAP设计考虑到场地不仅仅作为市民日常篮球休闲的场地，更可作为街头篮球比赛场地，在保留场地曲线造型的同时融入全场篮球场地尺寸考虑，采用渗水性强的地面材质，保障场地的多功能使用性。场地一侧的草坡结合树荫设置石阶座椅，郁郁葱葱的草坡，成为户外观赛的最佳场地。
The overall design of the interactive amphitheater is fully integrated with the use of sports and recreation at the same time, to provide the adjacent residents a high-class leisure spot, a spacious interactive space.互动剧场的整体设计充分结合使用功能，在兼具运动与游憩的同时，更为周边居民提供了一流的运动休闲场所，一个开阔的互动性空间。
Walk to the right along the theater to reach the ecological hillside, where the topography changes to enrich the walking experience for visitors. And combined with Vanke LOGO to form a distinctive display facade, which can also be clearly observed when strolling across the opposite commercial street.
沿剧场往右走到达生态化的草坡，地形起伏变化丰富游人行走观感体验，地形外侧以多山峰组合为形态，并结合万科LOGO形成特色展示面，漫步在对面商街也可以明显看到这一特色展示面。

As the topography changes from the slope to the central plaza of the park, you will experience the space expanding and relieving as you walk. The original narrow path will open up and you will feel the spaciousness of the space. It will be a gathering place for various events and can be used by a wide variety of people.随着地形的变化由草坡入口缓缓的到达公园的中心广场区域，边走边感受空间的不断的打开舒缓。由原本收窄的空间而感受到豁然开阔的广场展现出来。这里也将是众多活动聚集的场地，也兼具各种人群的使用需求。

林间栈道——探险海岛
THE WOODLAND TRAIL - EXPLORING THE ISLANDS
↑ 岛屿般的空间组合，形成一个个凹凸空间满足不同的小型休憩空间，让休憩与海港的故事浑然一体 /The island-like combination forms a concave-convex volume to meet different small recreational spaces, allowing the relaxation and the story of the harbor to be integrated.
↑ 漫步城市绿色生态氧吧，起伏于童话般白桦林间的步行景观桥 /Stroll through the green ecological oxygen passage and walk on the pedestrian landscape bridge among the vivid fairy like birch forests.
In the background of the park is a dense jungle of white birch. Between the birch meanders like waves, is a pedestrian bridge. Walking across the bridge, in the light and shade of the birch shady swaying between, not only overlook the park, but also to relax and immerse in the natural beauty of oxygen heaven.
公园的背景，是一片茂密的白桦丛林。白桦林间如海浪般起伏蜿蜒的，是一座漫步景观桥。于桥上穿行而过，在白桦婆娑的光影摇曳间，既可俯瞰全园，又可放松身心，沉浸于城市的自然氧吧之间。

To build such a pedestrian bridge in the forest, apart from enriching the vertical changing of the park and increasing the walking experience, ZAP team pays more attention to the use of "Grey Space" underbelow. Hence, the team used the 2.5M clear height strip space to create a playful crossing place - a swing theme campsite.打造这样一座林间栈桥，除了丰富公园竖向变化,增添游人的行进体验外，ZAP更关注桥下灰空间的利用。因此，团队利用桥下净高2.5M的条带空间倾情打造了一个充满童趣的穿行场地——一个秋千主题特色营地。
A winding path through the shaded birch woods runs under a bridge. On one side of the path is a scientific rain garden featuring Harbin's native plants, and we have chosen a spot in the garden as a special display booth for a cross-sectional display of the rain garden.绿荫如盖的白桦林间，一条蜿蜒的小径由桥下穿行而过，道路一侧是以哈尔滨本地植物为特色的科普性雨水花园，我们在花园中选择一处作为雨水花园剖面展示特色展示点。
By observing the soil structure and plant growth status at each level, such as filter layer, coarse sand layer, soil layer and compaction layer, the children can experience the natural growth process from a close angle.通过剖面观察过滤层，粗砂层，土壤层，夯实层等各层次土壤功能及植物生长状态，让孩子们零距离感受自然生长的过程。

The entrance to the rain garden is named West Canyon, an area that uses stacked boulders to create the natural and wild atmosphere of Canada's West Canyon, allowing visitors to experience the amazing and magical experience of discovering an enchanted plant garden through a wild canyon.雨水花园的入口命名为西峡谷，这一区域使用块石堆叠营造出加拿大西峡谷般自然野趣的场地氛围，让游人切身感受到穿越野趣峡谷后发现魔法植物花园的惊喜与新奇的奇幻体验。
Natural Exhibition: Ocean Fossil Ground Paving
In the midst of the laughter, in the sound of birds and flowers in the camp, you will unconsciously return to that childhood dream.在孩子们的欢声笑语之间，在鸟语花香的营地之中，使人不知不觉又回到那个童年的梦境之中。
The winding path leads walkers through the West Canyon, strolling through a rain garden of magical vegetation, and finally to a wide rocky dry-spray plaza with the sound of bubbling water; fountains spouting rhythmically from the piled rocks form a beautiful symphony of nature, the ideal soundtrack for the crowd.那条蜿蜒的小径引导游人穿越西峡谷，漫步过魔法植物雨水花园，最终到达宽阔的伴着汩汩水流声的岩石旱喷广场；在堆砌的岩石中喷泉有节奏的喷出，形成大自然美妙的交响乐，成为与活动人群最契合的背景音。

THE RAIL-LOOP DISPLAY
ZAP has designed a park tour railway station for children and parents to participate in parent-child activities. The train track is 300 meters long and passes through several heart of the park, from the white birch forest in the north to the fitness area in the south.ZAP打造了一处公园观光小火车站点，供儿童及家长亲子活动参与。小火车轨道全长300米，穿越公园几大核心活动区域，北至白桦林间，南至公园健身区，坐上小火车兜上一圈，既能聆听白桦林的风语，又能饱览红枫落叶翩翩，享受不同场地的丰富的观光体验。

海螺运动公园
CONCH PLAYGROUND
The central space of the park, surrounded by floating corridors, is an ocean-themed playground for kids. On top of the dark and light blue curves of the waves, ZAP team carefully depicted and projected a realistic conch-shaped slide, which became the most favorite amusement attraction of the children in the park.
被漂浮的廊架所围合的公园中心空间，是一个以海洋为主题特色的儿童游玩天地。波涛般的深蓝与浅蓝的曲线韵律场地之上，ZAP通过精心的刻画与推演，一个活临活现的海螺造型游具滑梯跃然而出，成为场地内最受孩子们喜爱的游乐器材。

WATER BAR WITH CARE HARBOUR
The winding corridor on the periphery of the site integrates rest, communication and parental care into an whole, light and transparent corridor, which is illuminated by the sunshine, altogether with the playground, in which forms a family one-stop recreation activity spot during the weekend, bringing a lively and memorable activity experience.场地外围的风雨连廊，集休憩交流与家长看护为一体，轻盈而通透的连廊空间，在阳光的映照下光影绰约，与游玩天地共同形成一个家庭假日周末一站式的休闲活动场地，带来令人流连忘返的活动体验。

Along the winding path alongside Tongle Bay, the park ends at a plaza combined with a sleek and modern sales center building. Inspired by the "sea of stars and fish", the designers have created an artistic canvas of stars falling on the shimmering surface of the ocean.沿着同乐湾旁蜿蜒的小径向前，公园的末端是与时尚明快的售楼处建筑相结合的广场场地。设计师们以“星光海洋、鱼跃其间”为灵感来源，打造了一幅星光洒落在波光粼粼的海面般的艺术画卷。
The paved plaza, which flows like a tidal wave, is strewn with oasis-like landscaped green islands, among which are not only scattered stars lights, but also embellished with interesting starlight lawn lights, adding a certain interest to the design.如潮汐般流动的铺装广场上，错落着绿洲般的景观绿岛，其间不仅散落着星星点点的景观地灯，绿化上更点缀着趣味的星光草坪灯，为设计平添几分趣味性。
The mirrored water feature under the building's water curtain harmonizes the site's artistry with its playfulness.建筑水幕下的镜面水景，更是将场地的艺术性与趣味性和谐统一。

In order to create an innovative all-day, 24-hour starlight thematic park, the ZAP team added more playful luminous swings, illuminated seesaws, starlit seats and a sparkling luminous sculptural logo to the traditional illumination, making the park brilliantly illuminated at night.为打造一个全天候，24小时精彩不断的星光特色主题公园，ZAP团队在传统的灯具之外，增添更具趣味性的夜光秋千、发光跷跷板、星光座椅及夜光雕塑式LOGO，使夜间的公园星光璀璨，流光溢彩。
